Sat on the patio facing the water..got kinda chilly so bring a sweater. Inside the restaurant is really fancy looking. The prices are pretty decent and we loved everything we ordered. Oysters and mac and cheese. I highly recommend the mac and cheese:)
Stood at front for a solid 5 minutes before a hostess came up. Told there was a 10-15 minute wait. Waited over 20 minutes just to find that half the tables in the bar and patio were empty. They seem to have changed their menu. We ordered the calamari, which we wrongfully assumed was fried its not. I firmly believe a server should tell you that as calamari is almost always served fried nowadays. My salmon was not cooked through again something you should mention. Very small portion for it being the second most expensive thing on their menu. My boyfriends burger was rare and cold in the middle... Im pregnant and I had a bite not realizing. NOT OK... you should DEFINITELY tell people things like this... we werent greeted for a long time once we were sat. Werent asked how our food was.. had to ask for cutlery after our food came out. Had to ask for napkins after that.. Didnt ask us how the food was.. 2 stars because last time we came their soup and deviled eggs were good and the patio is very nice so...
Nice atmosphere. I had the lamb which was cooked nicely. Their oyster plate is also very good. Nice presentation, chilled on ice, served with a selection of different sauces. The veggies included with the lamb was marinated and cooked exceptionally. The selection of drinks is also very good. The staff is friendly and professional. Recommended for anyone looking for good food and a nice atmosphere.
The Port has been my wife's and I go to restaurant for several years now. We dine there no less than twice a month and have celebrated New Years, Valentine's Day and several birthdays there. The menus is simple, but on point as is the wine selection. The bar setup is by far the best in all of Durham! Service is always attentive, but not overly attentive. The Port "gets it" when it come the service, ambiance and quality of food. My only comment would be recently management has been making several tweaks; especially to their menu offering, which I feel is starting to distract from The Port's reasons for success. Keep in mind people want simple comfort food at affordable prices. On another note, The Port on several occasions has started to close the restaurant to cater to a private parties. This I find ignores the core customers who most like traveled some distance just to find The Port closed (unless you're a banquet hall you should never close for a private party).
Nice venue. Food presentation nice but lacks depth in taste. For the price, was expecting quality food & flavours. Front host not so friendly (visited Sat dinner in May)
